Community Benefit Events

(the new CBE)

Many of us look at the FreeMarkets era of our lives as foundational, providing us vast amounts of opportunity, growth and an enviable network of brilliant leaders and laureates. While bringing all of us together to celebrate our milestones and achievements, we thought it would be a good time to collectively support organizations of similar values driving for a better world.

We offer up three organizations reflective of our FreeMarkets history and values for your consideration of a Donation in collaboration with our alumni. Together we can make a great deal of difference in promoting these fine services.

As of publishing the site, there has already been $16,000 donated across the three. Let's make a difference for Pittsburgh, our Youth and in memory of friends and family.

In homage to our Procurement/Supply Chain Roots:

"FreeMarkets Race to the Case SCM Case Competition" at the University of Pittsburgh challenges undergraduate students from regional universities to compete for the best solution to a supply chain management case. Students learn to apply their business judgment and supply chain problem-solving skills as their teams develop and communicate their analytical results and recommendations. The competition is hosted by Pitt’s Center for Supply Chain Management, and it is a “race to the case” as each phase of the competition is located in a different building on Pitt’s campus

Click HERE to make a donation to the Center’s Fund, called “The GENCO Fund for Supply Chain Management”, and 100% of your donation will go to the Race to the Case Competition and you will receive a 501c3 donation acknowledgement from the University.

With this case competition, FreeMarkets Alumni can give back to the next generation of Supply Chain Management professionals in a meaningful and exciting way. Alumni are also encouraged to assist the Center with case development and program execution. Please contact the Center for Supply Chain Management for more information.”

In homage to Pittsburgh:

In 1995, long before Pittsburgh became known as a thriving tech hub, Glen Meakem and Sam Kinney saw the future. They believed the internet could revolutionize commerce—specifically by streamlining corporate purchasing. That vision gave rise to FreeMarkets, a pioneering company that helped lay the groundwork for the city’s transformation into a center of innovation.

Thirty years later, FreeMarkets remains a proud Pittsburgh success story. As we gather to celebrate, reminisce, and reconnect, we’re also giving back to the city where it all began. It’s our way of honoring the community, talent, and spirit that made FreeMarkets possible—and supporting the city that supported us in those early days.

In homage to our Alumns:

American Cancer Society/Leukemia and Lymphoma Society - in honor of our alums who have passed away or currently battling cancer.
